Hi, I'm Britt! I'm a fine art film + digital photographer specializing in lifestyle family, motherhood, maternity, and newborn portraiture. I am passionate about preserving ordinary family moments, capturing little milestones, and celebrating and cherishing motherhood. I am so excited to get to know you!
A little bit about me, I am the bride to my southern charmer, Michael, and mommy to my two adorable children. I was born and raised in Lake Forest. I have lived in many different cities, including Waco, Bloomington, Dallas, Chicago, and Aix-en-Provence (France), but we have settled our family in the suburbs of Chicago, not far from my roots. Although I ultimately graduated from Indiana University with a French and Business degree, I spent my first year at Baylor University studying Interior Design and Fashion Merchandising, and am so proud of both of my schools and am thankful for the incredible experiences and knowledge I gained along the way! Go Hoosiers + Sic'em Bears! I have a Masters in Elementary Education from DePaul University and taught for several years. I am absolutely passionate about education and children, but after choosing to stay home with my son, I decided to officially add photographer to my list of titles. I am excited to be doing something I have enjoyed as a hobby for much of my life, and to be working with some of my favorite things: people, landscapes, natural light, and design.
I have been a lover of photography since I was probably 6 years old when I pleaded my parents for a polaroid camera for my birthday so that I could photograph my dog and family...but mostly my dog. I still have many of those old polaroids and get such a good laugh looking through them! I truly ignited my passion for film in high school when I took photography classes. I purchased my first professional film camera and spent hours in the dark room, learning how to carefully develop my images just to my liking. A fancy camera is great, but I learned that the skill and technique and deep understanding of light and composition is far more important. One of my favorite projects was converting a tin coffee can into a camera. One of my favorite photos to this day, came from that coffee-tin-camera!
The light and airy look of film is stunningly unique. The way film captures color and light is spectacular, particularly the way it captures skin tones. It is hard to beat and gives the skin a beautiful, natural glow. Film photography in general is an art. I have also started to incorporate more digital into my work to ensure that I capture the moments you desire with precision, while maintaining my light and bright aesthetic. I love telling a story through photography and capturing natural moments that you will have for a lifetime. I'm all about organic moments but I will provide gentle direction and allow the personalities of my subjects to shine through. My goal is to make everyone feel comfortable and enjoy the time in front of my lens!
I look forward to meeting you in person!
